You can rent books, read them and move on. Also, you can rent a lot of books with Amazon Prime (a month comes free with the Kindle I bought). Something else is there are a ton of free books in different genres I wouldn't normally read so I can test out a few in that genre with good reviews and see if I like "romance" or whatever. After I slide the lock across the screen I don't see ads anymore. Sometimes it's gum or cars but others its new release books or best sellers with descriptions and other times it's "Free $3 credit if spent by xx". When I open my kindle case or I push the button on top to wake it from sleep mode I see an ad. Something you might want to consider is the "With ads" or "Without ads". I also found that the "Dailey deals" amazon has have some great books on it for cheaper prices. Now I browse for a while, download a few chapters as a preview and then I can decide if I want to continue reading it (buy it) or move on to something else. Then there would be a few that seemed ehh, but nothing like YES I WANT TO READ THIS. I didn't have time to go browse for a book I think I'd like. I have read a lot more since getting my Kindle. I read before my kindle but I was constantly distracted and not finishing books. Granted it may not have to support and the community the Kindle has, but it will give you a good chance to judge if an ereader is right for you! Or even opt for a cheaper model instead like a kobo or another off brand. Honestly you may want to check out your local craigslist and see if anyone is selling a used one. Usually I would have only packed the one book i was reading, maybe a 2nd if I was over half done, but I didnt have to worry about that! I've found times where I would have never thought to bring a book that I am so grateful I have my kindle! When I went to a race with the boyfriend last year I read for the entire 6 hour drive there, most of the time they were working on the car, and then most of the drive home. I have a nice leather case for it and toss it in my purse every day. One of the big reasons it has really boosted my reading is that its so easy to take everywhere! I charge it and it's good for 2 weeks or so. That was 2 years ago and now, I fly through books. The guy said he got it for a graduation present and didnt want to deal with returning it. I got my kindle on Craigslist, it was brand new and had barely been opened. I'd pick up a book every now and then and read it, but it would be maybe 2 or 3 a year total. I was always an avid reader as a kid but once I got to junior year of high school I just kind of stopped. I would love your input and perhaps some motivation?! TL DR Is the Kindle 5 not worth it? For a total book newbie, is it not a good buy? I really want to get the cheapest since I´m unsure, but if it´s just a pure waste of money I don´t want that either. So after reading a bit on this subreddit I only see people telling others to buy the paperwhite kindle. It doesn´t feel like I´m actually reading a book, you know? So now, here I am.Īs you can tell I´m kind of unsure about investing in this since I´m not currently reading any books, but I wish I did. Anyway, reading a book on a laptop really doesn´t feel good and also turns me off the whole thing. Free stuff on the Internet always surprise me. I always thought you basically paid for a device in which you then also had to pay for each book. Obviously I have heard about e-readers but since I´m not interested in books I never looked much into it. Now once again the people of reddit got me in the mood of reading a book, but I just get so turned off by the thought of libraries or wasting space at home for storing books that I never follow through. So I would like to start with saying I havn´t read a book in at least 10 years, which says a lot since im currently 23 years old. You may or may not receive a reason.Ī complete and up to date list of rules is available on the new Reddit view Failing to do so will end up on your post being removed and/or your account banned.
